Some BSP Leaders Call for a New Cabinet
An open letter signed by some
leaders of the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party and published in the
party daily Duma on November 5 urged a formation of a new government
after the party defeat in the presidential elections two days earlier.
Among the signatories were Alexander Lilov, a high-level communist era
official and former BSP chairman who promoted the present BSP leader
and prime minister Zhan Videnov within the party leadership; Yanaki Stoilov,
deputy chairman of BSP and others (among them many from the
reformist Union for Social Democracy faction within BSP). While
noting the slump in the popularity of the government, the letter
did not name Videnov in particular. It suggested that experts should get
involved in the state government.
